Coach, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Professor Italo Lins is a technical and accomplished black belt competitor and an esteemed Brazilian Jiujitsu coach.

Italo began his journey in Brazilian Jiujitsu at the age of 12, under the tutelage of the esteemed Master Carlos Santana in Rio de Janeiro, an affiliate of Grappling Fight Team. After earning his brown belt, and with the encouragement of Master Santana, Italo transitioned to GF Teams main branch to train under the team founder – Master Julio Cesar Pereira. Under Master Julio’s guidance Professor Italo went on to earn his black belt in 2010 and become one of GF Teams most active high-level competitors.

Citing his world champion teammates Denilson Pimenta and Rodolfo Vieira as inspiration, Italo committed himself to competition. He fought hundreds of matches in the Lightweight division, carving out a name for himself at both regional and international levels. Armed with his signature guard-passing and back-taking techniques Italo proudly carried GF Teams colours to victory at many high-profile events, claiming Gold medals in the North-Northeast Interstate, the Rio Open, CBJJO World Cup and the Mercosul Cup in 2010 as well as in the Las Vegas Open, NY Open and the North American Grappling Association (NAGA) championships (Gi & Nogi). Italo now coaches the next generation of BJJ athletes, whilst continuing to compete actively.

Professor Italo brings a tremendous competition experience and a depth of technical mastery to his role as BJJ coach. As one of GF Team foremost representatives Italo has gathered a wealth of coaching experience travelling and teaching at various GF Team affiliate schools around the world. Professor Italo brings his technical and dynamic style to his position as BJJ coach at both Trifecta Martial Arts – Novena and Trifecta Martial Arts – Bukit Timah. His knowledge is instrumental to the continued development of the Adult BJJ curriculum and Competition Team program.

When he’s not coaching or rolling on the mats you can find Professor Italo at the beach, where he paddle – boards and surfs.
