Founder & Program Director

With over 15 years of active involvement in the realm of martial arts, Arlene Lim sits as the Founder and Program Director of Trifecta Martial Arts.

She embarked on her martial arts journey in the discipline of Taekwondo back in 1998 under the tutorship of Grandmaster Jae Hun Kim in Boston, US. Since then, she went on to represent Singapore in major Taekwondo tournaments worldwide, making her mark in the prominent Asian Taekwondo Championships, Southeat Asia Taekwondo Championships and even in the prestigious US Open across various belt levels.

Now a third-degree Taekwondo black belt, Arlene Lim is also the founder of the J H Kim Taekwondo Institute in Singapore. The brand, established locally in 2003, has since grown to 7 locations nationwide, with an active database of 3,000 students all over Singapore.

In 2011, Arlene decided to venture into a new and exciting discipline as part of her martial arts journey. Dedicating herself to the practice of Brazilian Jiu-jitsu (BJJ), she attained her blue belt in 2012. The benefits of cross training in different martial art forms are amazing. Her list of accomplishments in BJJ includes competing in major international tournaments such as the Abu Dhabi World Professional Championships, where she won bronze in her weight class and silver in the open weight classes. She also clinched gold in weight & open weight classes, both in gi and no-gi divisions at the Pan Asian Championships.

Arlene attended Dartmouth College and MIT on an SAF overseas merit scholarship and has served as a Captain and Singapore’s first female Armour Officer in the Singapore Armed Forces. In her spare time, she bakes cakes (beats up eggs) and indulges in photography.

She is also a mother to three lovely children, all of whom are also actively involved in martial arts – Isabel, 9, is a four-time National Taekwondo champion, while her son Alejandro, 6, and youngest daughter, Sofia, 5, both practise BJJ.
